New highlights of China’s graphite electrode exports: Malaysia’s market experienced explosive growth in May

According to customs data, the export volume of graphite electrodes from China in May 2024 was 23700 tons, and the overall export volume experienced a slight decline, with a month on month decrease of 5.96% and a year-on-year decrease of 8.36%. The top three exporters are Türkiye, Russia and South Korea.

Among them, the amount of graphite electrodes exported to Türkiye was 18600 tons, an increase of 25.83% month on month; The amount of graphite electrodes exported to Russia was 16800 tons, a decrease of 25.33% compared to the previous month. Although Russia is still one of the main exporters of graphite electrodes from China, the export volume has decreased this month; The amount of graphite electrodes exported to South Korea was 16400 tons, a month on month increase of 62.68%.

Of particular note is that the amount of graphite electrodes exported from China to Malaysia was 14300 tons, a sharp increase of 163.74% compared to the previous month. Malaysia’s demand for graphite electrodes from China has increased significantly in recent times, but due to anti-dumping policies, the amount of graphite electrodes exported to Japan declined again in May, a decrease of 23.34% compared to the previous month.
